Andrea and Nancy are our new Program co-chairs for OVGS. They have decided to merge the adventurous with the practical. The OVGS Executive is proud to present something traditional, something with a new technique, something practical and something avant-garde for your stitching pleasure in 2016-2017.

Christmas Rose with Dragonfly- October & November
Instructor: Mike
This gorgeous Jane Nicholas design will be a chance to learn many of the traditional elements of raised work aka stumpwork. It is a small project packed with lots of technique. The piece uses a combination of white and ecru silks with cotton threads. Soie Perlee, Soie d'Alger, Soie Ovale, Soie Chenille, Rajmahal and DMC threads as well as wires, beads, and a single pearl. The completed project will be suitable to mount on the lid of a 4 to 5 inch box or will fit within a small picture frame. Members who sign up for this class require a copy either of Jane Nicholas's books " Stumpwork Embroidery: A Collection of Fruits, Flowers and Insects for Contemporary Raised Embroidery" or "The Complete Book of Stumpwork Embroidery" . This project is covered in both books.

Add in a little turkey work and padded buttonhole for added fun!

Santa Ornament 9

Chained by Blue & Gold- January & February
Using only variations on chain stitch, this class will introduce stitchers to layered designs. Two colours of 28-count linen and the EAC fabric are used to create a sampler that showcases a broad range of chain stitches including: petal chain coil; triple chain butterflies; zig zag chain; raised chain stitch bands, and many more. Using DMC, Rainbow Gallery, Kreinik and Valdani threads, as well as Mill Hill beads, you will layer fabrics with a variety of attachment techniques.

Many Fish in the Pond-March & April
Instructor: Andrea
Inspired by the current craze for adult colouring books, the bright and cheerful surface embroidery becomes cover for a project folder to hold your pattern and instructions on one side and your project mounted in a canvas or hoop on the opposite side. The cover will be stitched on Kona cotton. Participants will learn the alternating barred chain, herringbone and Cornelian lace. You will have the option to change the colours of the koi fish. Fabric and threads are included in the kit. Finishing fabric for this project is supplied by the participant.Fish-1 Fish-2  Fish-3

Button Club-Throughout the Year
Instructor: Andrea
Learn a new stitch each month and turn it into something useful like an embroidered button! This short class will occur 30 minutes before the regular Guild meeting and will not interfere with the monthly programmes. Sign up a month ahead to ensure you have a kit and join the fun for one meeting or all of them! You have the option to turn your samples into embroidered buttons, bracelets, necklace, needle minders, "Inchies" or the start of your own stitch dictionary.
