Welcome to Seminar 2014: A Stitching Symphony

Rideau CanalRideau CanalThe Embroiderers’ Association and The Ottawa Valley Guild of Stitchery are pleased to welcome you to  Seminar 2014 - A Stitching Symphony to be held in the beautiful city of Ottawa from May 13th to 18th, 2014.

Ottawa offers a symphony of sights, sounds and activities from walks along the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to enjoying one of our many festivals.  While in Ottawa, take in the sites of our Tulip festival or immerse yourself in Canadian history, culture and achievement at national museums and galleries. Fill yourself with pride as you tour the Capital's famous national sites and landmark attractions.

Tulip FestivalTulip FestivalAll great symphonies contain movement, tranquility, colour and formality and, like embroidery, they convey mood, emotion, light and shade.  Seminar 2014 - A Stitching Symphony  promises all that and more with an exciting array of instructors from Canada, the United States and United Kingdom who will be teaching a wide variety of techniques and designs.  All levels of needleworkers will find something to challenge and inspire them.  On the free day, we invite you to take one of our exciting classes or tours.

We hope that you will take some time to explore Ottawa, take some time to shop, enjoy some fine dining and above all enjoy our lovely city.

We look forward to seeing you in 2014.

Seminar is just around the corner and we know you are anxious for more details to make your arrival more enjoyable. We've included several important pieces of information for you below. Please read through them all carefully as they will help you on the first day of Seminar. In addition, attached to this email, is a general map to Algonquin's Campus. We have identified the buildings that are associated with Seminar.

Registration opens on Tuesday May 13 in Building R – the Residence building – 1:00-5:30 pm.
It will be at Seminar Central the rest of the week in Building T Room 303.

The Opening Reception is a cocktail reception – not a dinner – and will be held at 7:00 pm in Building N (Cafeteria). You are able to access the cafeteria by walking through the Student Commons. Please be sure to check out our display of the all of the Class pieces for Seminar 2014. In addition we will have on sale raffle tickets for our beautiful Opportunity Baskets and raffle pieces.

Classes start on Wednesday morning at 9:00 am. Our classes will be in two different buildings (Building T and Building P) – please consult the maps which will be in your registration kit.

Please also note that we will not be providing any snacks or coffee during breaks. There are numerous vending machines and small restaurants and coffee shops on campus or you can purchase items, to bring with you, from Loblaw's in College Square – next door to the residences (a 5 minute walk).

Lastly, don't forget to review your class supply lists and to bring your stitching kit so that you have everything with you for your first day of classes. At Registration you will receive a regular water bottle which you can refill throughout the week or feel free to bring your favorite water bottle with you.

We are looking forward to meeting you.
