Cycladean Floral Border

Teacher: Kim

Design by Krista West Krista's website

This beautiful centerpiece of a stunningly ornate border is reminiscent of embroidery designs influenced by Venetian textiles in the mid-1700s and worked throughout the Cyclades, a group of Greek islands in the Aegean sea. Tulips, cornflowers, and carnations are combined with scrolling leaves and grounded by a starkly geometric border. The embroidery is stitched on 28 count Cashel linen. When finished it measure 17 inches square. The techniques involve cross stitch and antique hemstitch.
